Roadside Technician Jobs in Brooklyn

About The Role In Brooklyn

Brooklyn pairs busy commercial corridors with quiet residential blocks. Technicians cover neighborhoods from Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and Bushwick down through Park Slope, Flatbush, Bay Ridge, and out to Coney Island, working brownstone-lined side streets and main avenues alike.

Because so much of Brooklyn parks on the street, dead batteries and flat tires from curbside potholes are among the most frequent calls, alongside lockouts. The borough's many small businesses also create steady demand for commercial van jump starts and lockouts.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

  • Respond promptly to roadside assistance requests, including jump starts, flat tire changes, emergency fuel delivery, car and truck lockouts, and on-site battery replacement.
  • Diagnose common vehicle problems accurately and complete each service safely at the roadside, in driveways, parking lots, and garages.
  • Operate professional jump packs, tire-changing equipment, and damage-free lockout tools in accordance with safety standards.
  • Communicate courteously and professionally with customers, and provide a clear, honest, upfront price before beginning any work.
  • Maintain your own tools, equipment, and service vehicle in clean, safe, working condition.
  • Accurately record each job completed and process customer payments.
Requirements

Work Experience & Qualifications

  • One (1) or more years of prior work experience in roadside assistance, towing, automotive service, or a closely related field is preferred, though not required.
  • A valid New York State driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Your own reliable vehicle suitable for roadside work.
  • Your own basic tools, or the ability to acquire them; we can advise on the equipment needed.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and a working knowledge of vehicle batteries, tires, and door and lock systems.
  • Strong customer-service skills and a professional, dependable, and courteous manner.
  • The physical ability to work outdoors in all weather and to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • As a 1099 independent contractor, the ability to carry your own insurance and to manage your own tax obligations.
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
Schedule & Pay

Set Your Own Hours

This is a 1099 independent contractor position. You set your own hours and choose the days and shifts you work. As an independent contractor, you are responsible for your own taxes, insurance, vehicle, and basic tools. Technicians earn an estimated $46,000 to $75,000 per year, depending on experience, availability, and the number of calls completed.
